This year's World Cup has seen the most contesting, grueling rate rat races and even appalling ones in which world first Brazil succumbed to Holland 2-1 with a own goal, ten men Germany losing 1-0 to Serbia and also Spain conceding a losing goal to Switzerland in the starting match for its campaign.
The most distinguished and memorable sound found in South Africa might be the vuvuzela, a tubular,horn-like African musical instrument. It is considered as a must-buy souvenir at South Africa and fans worldwide would blow hard into this instrument to generate a deep, hollow sound in support of their favourite teams. Forlorn faces would be hung over the supporters of the defeated teams while some people would also be ecstatic. However, what they enjoyed in the match was indeed skilled and prized football and also sheer excitement and adrenaline.
Out of all the frenzy for the competition, some new stars still got to stand in the limelight, such as 21-year old Bayern Munich and German marksman Thomas Mueller, who was the core of his team's offense. He scored a total of five goals, equal to the three other stars, but was conferred on the prestigious Golden Shoe Award in its first play for his country.\, due to his many assists.Uruguay's Diego Forlan, despite he was in the face of adversities, battled gallantly with his team through to the final four. There are also Spanish David Villa and Dutch Wesley Sniedjer who unleashed their ultimate, star performance and failed to let their supporters down.
This World Cup also did not exclude another star in the form of an octopus. Paul, the German octopus, proved itself to be a professional fortune-teller who uncannily foretold the outcome of eight matches in the World Cup correctly, including all the matches the Germans had played and also the finals.
During this period, South Africa has dramatically beefed up its security and defences against any threats and a few thousands troops are deployed to keep watch for twenty four hours round the clock. This denotes their dedication and strong responsibility towards the welfare and safety of its visitors which is highly commendable. However, it will have to look out more on thefts that occurred in hotel rooms which have inflicted huge losses to many visitors.
In short, long live the World Cup spirit and cross your lips with your finger in anticipation of Brazil 2014!
