A convincing 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge on Saturday yielded the defending champions a precious 3 points to gear themselves up in their attempt to at least clinch the top-four position in the BPL this season after a lingering, dramatic slump. The two goals were both scored from corners in the second half. The first half saw a mutitude of golden opportunites from the aggressive home team, but all came to no avail. There was also not much inspiration shown by the away team.Neither was able to break the deadlock, and Chelsea remained in higer possesion by half-time.Chelsea continued their suppressing play.In the 57th minute, there at last was a breakthrough. A decent corner from Florent Malouda was flicked off by skipper John Terry to the other side of the goal to Branislav Ivanovic, who played his way past two defenders and struck a lethal volley whcih flew past various defenders and rolled into the net. After the first goal , there was still not much resistance from Blackburn. Chelsea seized the opportunity of their opponent's weaknesses. The 76th minute corner, also from Malouda, was headed to the goal by Ivanovic, but Anelka came into the ball's course with his legs and deftly touched the ball out of the reach of the goalkeeper and snatched the glory from Ivanovic, who could have possibly procured his second in the match. Nonetheless, victory was in favour of Chelsea, who went on to defend tenaciously and doggedly till the final whistle was blown.

The win over Rovers was only the second win for Chelsea out of their ten previous attempts, including the marginal 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers three weeks ago.Chelsea has been mired in their worst slump after 15 years, gaining only 8 points in the whole season. The trashing of Ipswich Town in last week's FA Cup 3rd tie might have boosted the team's morale radically. This week's success will also prove pivotal to Chelsea's trailling in the rest of this season.
Chelsea , now with 38 points, is fourth in the table, with 5 points lower than London rivals Arsenal, 7 points than Manchester City and unbeaten Red Devils Manchester United, which still has 2 games in hand.
Chelsea are starting to hit a rhythm now, after a poor few months. They started the season real well after clinching the previous EPL title, but after that they seemed to decline. Currently they seem to be back in form, although not as good as before, but with enormous buys like Torres, they would get back into the title race soon, but i would not think that it would be anytime this season. Well, it would be rater sad to see them drop out of top 4 and going to europe, but anyway, they would still prove to be a formidable opponent for any team to face.
