Play a part for our Earth

Last week,Saturday, 27/3/10,8.30-9.30(Singapore Time) was when all major capitals in the world gathered to commemorate one significant event. The Earth Hour, held annually, marks human's milestone in their desperate attempt to salvage the dire conditions the earth is grappling with-Global Warming.Tonight,in metropolis such as Shanghai and New York, towering buildings will cease to glitter in the dark sky and instead, the city will plunge into partial darkness.
During the brief one hour when this event take its course, people are strongly encouraged to switch off their electrical appliances, including lights and lamps,to conserve electricity that will in turn cut down global warming. In most nations, fuel is burned to generate power. This process will release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and monoxide, that will trap heat emitted by the sun to the earth, causing global temperatures to soar. The immense heat will melt tons of ice at the poles that can push water mark, triggering floods and avalanches worldwide, especially in low-lying areas.Loads of man have already perished in such disasters and more would follow by if man does not mend his ways and continue destructing the environment. In fact, the one he is destructing is himself.
I would not bear to miss such a meaningful event.Tonight,I will also be playing my part.My parents had  allowed me to switch off most of the electrical appliances that we own.We would then we groping our way through the house.Nonetheless, my family and I felt a strong urge to dedicate and were more than honoured to be participating.

I hope that people will try to play a role in saving the environment like me  by actively and willingly playing a part in this meaningful event in the years to come.As the saying goes,''Unity is strength'',though one cannot do much, but many will make a surprising difference. It's not too late and I suppose with man's brilliance, and provided that we stay together as one,we will be able to defy all odds, combat and pit ourselves against nature and preserve our only home-Earth,not only for ourselves, but also for the sake of our future generations,
