The Blues, given their prowess, nonetheless dominated Portsmouth and sealed its fate 1-0 with a decisive penalty kick that sent Portsmouth's hopes crashing.
Chelsea was awarded a penalty kick in the 2nd minute when marksman Didier Drogba was foul played in the penalty area.Frank Lampard then fired a blasting shot to Chelsea's triumph.They managed to retain their lead despite strong counterattack from their foes.Both sides, however,were unable to break the deadlock that prevailed for the rest of the match despite Chelsea's relentless advance which led to six crucial shots deflecting off the pole.
Chelsea's dream of a two-pronged victory in this season has ultimately materialised.
